One other tip: using free services like HomeCamera (www.homecamera.com), we can use our existing USB webcams with old notebooks that we have lying around (almost EVERYONE I know has an old Windows notebook lying unused) to set up a free and easy home surveillance system. In this economy, frankly, I think this is the way to go.
